Homelessness and Housing - Quarterly Outreach Emphasis

After the May flood in Nashville, it is clear that safe housing can be very tenuous for any of us. But for years, our brothers and sisters in Nashville and around the world have known this. The struggles that homeless individuals and families face every day are visible all around us. What have we done to help? Our church will focus on issues of homelessness and housing for the next couple months. We expect to learn that we have done quite a lot, but we also believe that we are called to do more.
Are you currently involved with ministries to the homeless or those who have difficulty maintaining safe housing? Would you be interested in getting involved? We need your help! Our plan in the coming weeks is to identify what West End members are already doing, explore additional opportunities for our congregation, educate our community to the needs of the homeless, and respond to God’s call. We want to fulfill our mission to love, invite, venture, and empower so that lives and communities are transformed by God’s grace.
We urge you to join us in this work. We really do need your help. On Sunday, July 11, you can give us feedback in Reed Hall. Between services you can sign up to help, make us aware of the work you or someone else is already doing, or give us some leads on programs we ought to visit. You are also invited to our initial planning meeting of the Homelessness Emphasis Subcommittee on Tuesday, July 13, at 7:00 pm, in Room 309, as we begin to make decisions about the weeks ahead.
