A Song of Justice and Joy
On this third Sunday of Advent, we remember “The Magnificat,” the song that Mary sang after finding out that she was carrying a special child. It is a song of reversals, emphasizing the joy of the poor and marginalized. Given Mary’s own status, such an outlook might seem strange – she was a young, unmarried teenager, pregnant, and from a poor situation. What could inspire such joy? (NOTE: Although the video begins with the Children’s Moment, once it starts you can scroll back to the beginning of the service if you want. The video of the entire service is available to watch.)
