Searching for Paradise in a World of Theme Parks (Early Service)
Today we had two services for the first time since March. The early service was Livestreamed with a Chamber Choir singing and no congregation. The late service was not streamed and had limited attendance and no choir. Dr. Emilie Townes, Dean of the Divinity School at Vanderbilt, preached in the early service with the title, "Searching for Paradise in a World of Theme Parks." Our own senior minister, Carol Cavin-Dillon, preached in the late service with the title, "Blessed Assurance." Both used today's reading from Hebrews, which was written to give hope to early Christians who had undergone persecution, had waited a long time for the return of Jesus, and were absolutely worn out. That text has a lot to say to us in our time. (NOTE: Both videos begin with the Children's Moment and sermon, but after it starts you can scroll back to the beginning of the service if you want to see the entire service.)
