This is one of a series of Sundays focused on the Gospel of Mark. Today’s text from Mark 8 is initially about who Jesus is, and there are several answers. But when Peter correctly identifies Jesus as “the Messiah,” Jesus firmly rebukes him and warns them all not to reveal that to anyone. It is an astonishing response to those who have supported Jesus and look forward to the coming kingdom of God. What does this say about us as disciples?
