Encounter Service of Prayer and Presence, November 30, 2022
This is the twelfth of the Encounter Worship Series, a mid-week service of “prayer and presence,” taking place in conjunction with West End’s Wednesday evening dinner and programming. The theme for the current series is “Advent.” Carol Cavin-Dillon, Senior Minister, leads the service this evening, Rev. Chris Donald, the Chaplain at Vanderbilt University and an affiliate member of West End, reads scripture and delivers the message, and Matthew Phelps, West End’s Minister of Music, is the music leader. The scripture for the evening is Isaiah 2.1-5, and Chris begins by relating a recent encounter with a student who asked with all that’s wrong in the world, what’s up with God? The current world situation is in direct conflict between the peace with all nations coming to the mountain of God. Chris asks how we can reconcile all this with Advent, the coming of the Christ child and then offers several examples of that coming.
