The birth narrative in Luke is lengthy and detailed until the birth itself, and then things begin to move quickly. In today’s reading, Joseph and Mary take the infant to Jerusalem for the rite of purification. Their encounters with Simeon and Anna both certify who this baby is to be and caution that there will be dark times ahead. The focus, however, is always on the presence and light of God.
