Lost and Found (9/6/2020)

Speakers:Rev. Dr. Carol Cavin-Dillon
Topics:Children's moment, Holy communion, Sermon, Sunday service

Continuing our series of sermons from Matthew, today’s reading is that familiar parable of the shepherd leaving the 99 to find the one lost sheep.  This search itself – to leave the 99 – may not seem sensible.  Then Jesus says the shepherd rejoices more at finding the one lost sheep than over the 99 who weren’t lost.  Does God not notice those sheep who do not stray?  Yet, each of us has, at one time or another, been lost, and we can remember what it feels like to be found.  How wonderful it is to be part of a flock whose shepherd notices when one is lost and will go find that lost one.  Perhaps this tells us that we, too, are called to find the lost and to rejoice in the finding.     (NOTE: We usually post the 11 o’clock service, but with the COVID-19 threat we are having only the 8:45 service today, and that is the service we are posting.  NOTE:  Although the video begins with the Children’s Moment, once it starts you can scroll back to the beginning of the service if you want.  The video of the entire service is available to watch.)
