Persistent Empathy
Today is Laity Sunday, and West End member, Jeff Howerton is preaching. Continuing our series of sermons, “Lessons from the Road,” based on Luke 14-19, in today’s scripture Jesus tells the parable of “the persistent widow.” Jeff explains what’s going on in the parable as far as the roles of the widow and the judge’s, but he sees himself as neither of those and suspects most of us, too, do not identify with either. If we see ourselves as bystanders in this scene, what does the parable challenge us to do? (NOTE: Although the video begins with the Children’s Moment and sermon, once it starts you can scroll back to the beginning of the service if you want. The video of the entire service is available to watch.)
