In this familiar story from the Gospel of John, when Mary pours out a very expensive bottle of nard onto Jesus’ feet, Judas, clearly disparaged by the Gospel writer, asks what seems to be a legitimate question.  Jesus responds by quoting scripture, and that quotation is often used to absolve our responsibility where “the poor” are concerned.  But is that really what’s going on here?     (NOTE:  Although the video begins with the Communion Meditation, once it starts you can scroll back to the beginning of the service if you want.  The video of the entire service is available to watch.)
