Taizé Service of Prayer and Healing, December, 2023
The Taizé Service of Prayer and Healing is a different kind of worship service. Contemplative in nature, it is one of the ways to get in touch with one’s mystical self in the company of others with a similar intent, quieting the mind and listening for God. This is the first Taizé service since the passing of Sally Ahner who led these service for years. Today the service is rooted in Psalm 80:14-15, 19, an appeal to God to look down upon us. The reading from Hildegard of Bingen, whose poetry is often used in these services, was led by Jo Koehnemann, who then also settled everyone into a posture of spiritual meditation before the period of long silence. As with all Taizé services, a period for healing is included, and music is an integral part throughout, today with Andrew Risinger on the piano leading the musicians. (NOTE: A pdf of the program containing all of the music, readings, and guidance is available below to view or download.)
