As we have done throughout Advent, we turn to Isaiah, this time to a passage of good news, a passage that Jesus cites and applies to himself as one appointed by God to bring good news. Significantly, the good news is not for those in power, the Persian Empire in Isaiah’s time, but specifically for the downtrodden and oppressed, the “invisible ones.” It is a challenge to us, too, to be the bearers of good news to those who most need to hear it.
