The Acts of the Apostles begins after the resurrection with Jesus instructing the disciples over a period of 40 days, at the end of which Jesus ascends into heaven, leaving them yet again. But as the disciples see Jesus ascending, two white-robed men appear and challenge them not to stand, peering into the heavens, the implication being that although this seems like an end, it is a beginning, and they had better set about doing God’s work on earth. (This is also Confirmation Sunday.)
