The Fear of Herod
This is Epiphany Sunday, the day we recall the story of the birth from the gospel of Matthew, the one where the magi see the signs and follow the star to find the baby. In some ways it is a magical story, an essential part of our modern manger scenes. But it is also ominous with Herod’s paranoia casting a cloud over everything. Although we recoil at the thought of such a figure, do we have a bit of Herod inside ourselves? (NOTE: Although the video begins with the Communion Meditation, once it starts you can scroll back to the beginning of the service if you want. The video of the entire service is available to watch.)
