This is the third in the summer series looking at the figure of King David. In today’s passage, God sends Samuel to Jesse to anoint a new king to succeed Saul. In this familiar story, Jesse parades all but one of his sons before Samuel. Although all would seem to be of kingly stature, they are all rejected, and Jesse finally brings in his youngest son, whom he had never even considered presentable to Samuel. What does that say about how God views us?
