Unexpected Blessings
Today we begin a sermon series on the Sermon on the Mount with a look at the Beatitudes, specifically the first ones. If we were to ask people what being blessed means, we could guess most of the responses – enough money, happiness, a family around us. But Jesus completely throws us off guard by calling such people as “the poor in spirit” and “those that mourn” blessed. What could this mean, and what are we called to be and do in light of such blessings? (NOTE: Although the video begins with the communion meditation, once it starts you can scroll back to the beginning of the service if you want. The video of the entire service is available to watch.)
