This is the fifth in our Lenten series, “Why?” The writer of James, in encouraging us to “be doers of the word and not merely hearers,” uses a metaphor of looking at oneself in the mirror then forgetting the image. We often put forth reasons not to serve, but we are God’s bits of light in the world and part of God’s kingdom whose role it is, with God and others, to bring light.
