Alive: Re-engaging Theologies of Hope, Session 2: Theologies of Hope
This is the second in our Summer Sunday series for 2021. In this session, “Theologies of Hope,” the familiar parable of the mustard seed (from Mark 4), that something so small can be so meaningful is a sign of hope. Charlton asks the group, “What is hope?” What is God’s imagining of our future – is it like the present or is it something different? The gospels indicate that the Kingdom of God is something to be anticipated but also to be worked toward. Hope is orientation to God’s preferred future. What is your mustard seed of hope? Matthew W. Charlton is an ordained elder in the Tennessee Conference, teaching at Belmont University and Vanderbilt Divinity School, but currently at Garrett Evangelical Seminary. He holds Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Religion degrees from Vanderbilt and a PhD in contemporary theology from Garrett Evangelical Seminary.
