After more than seven years as Senior Minister at West End UMC and a full career and calling in the ministry, and as the last of his family to serve in a continuous line of ministers in the Tennessee Conference of the United Methodist Church dating back to 1836, Michael has retired. This program of celebration took place June 25, 2017, on the afternoon of Michael's last Sunday as Senior Minister. The program, narrated by Mac Pirkle, included several musical tributes and a number of video clips, some of church and family members offering witness, and some taken from Michael's own sermons and recorded statements.
